La Sila scelta come una delle due candidature italiane alla Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Unesco per il 2019

Lorica, 26 gennaio 2018 – La Commissione Italiana per l’UNESCO ha deciso ufficialmente di presentare la Sila come candidata per il nostro paese alla Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità UNESCO per il 2019.

Inizia così la seconda e ultima fase della candidatura, che dalla Tentative List nazionale ha condotto ora all’inizio del processo di valutazione vero e proprio da parte del World Heritage Center.

Unitamente alle “Alpi del Mediterraneo” (in realtà una candidatura transnazionale, insieme a Francia e Principato di Monaco), gli “Ecosistemi forestali della Sila” rappresenteranno quindi in questa fase finale quanto di meglio il nostro paese abbia da tutelare. La Sila in particolare è stata una scelta quasi obbligata, vista la sua importanza fondamentale, nelle parole della Commissione stessa, per via del suo essere «sede di straordinari processi ecologici che interessano gli ecosistemi delle foreste».

Ricordiamo che lo scopo cardine dell’UNESCO è «l’identificazione, la protezione, la tutela e la trasmissione alle generazioni future del patrimonio culturale e naturale di tutto il mondo». In questo senso i Patrimoni che entrano a far parte di questo ‘club’ esclusivo rappresentano appunto l’eredità del passato di cui noi oggi beneficiamo e che occorre trasmettere alle generazioni future. Luoghi allo stesso tempo unici e tanto diversi come Venezia e l’Etna, il centro storico di Roma e, auspicabilmente molto presto, appunto la Sila.

Il Commissario Straordinario dell’Ente Parco, la professoressa Sonia Ferrari, ha espresso subito la sua soddisfazione nel ricevere la notizia: «È stato riconosciuto il duro lavoro di questi anni. L’obiettivo era difficile da raggiungere, e certamente ancora abbiamo strada da fare prima di centrarlo, ma ci abbiamo messo l’anima tutti quanti, sia al Parco che in generale nel nostro territorio. Ora non resta che attendere la decisione del WHC. Certamente il riconoscimento potrebbe cambiare davvero le carte in tavola per le nostre zone, moltiplicando esponenzialmente la spinta dei flussi turistici ecosostenibili e sottolineando ulteriormente l’importanza del lavoro dell’Ente Parco nella gestione dell’area protetta».

Sila has been chosen as one of the two Italian applicants to the UNESCO World Heritage List for 2019

Lorica, January 26^th 2018 – The Italian UNESCO Commission has officially decided to present Sila as our country official candidacy to the UNESCO World Heritage List for 2019.

Thus begins the second and final phase of the candidature, which from the National Tentative List has now led to the beginning of the real evaluation process by the World Heritage Center.

Together with the “Mediterranean Alps” (actually a transnational candidacy, together with France and the Principality of Monaco), the “Sila forest ecosystems” will therefore represent in this final phase the best our country has to protect. Sila in particular was an almost obliged choice, given its fundamental importance, in the words of the Commission itself, considering it is «home to extraordinary ecological processes that affect the ecosystems of forests».

We may recall that the main goal of UNESCO is «the identification, protection, preservation and transmission to future generations of the cultural and natural heritage of the whole world». In this sense, the Patrimony that become part of this exclusive ‘club’ represent precisely the legacy of the past that we today benefit from and which we must pass on to future generations. Places at the same time as unique and as diverse as Venice and Etna, the historic center of Rome and, hopefully very soon, precisely the Sila.

The Special Commissioner of the Park Authority Sonia Ferrari immediately expressed her satisfaction in receiving the news: «The hard work of these years has been recognized. The goal was difficult to achieve, and we certainly still have a long way to go before we hit it, but we have put all our soul into it, both at the Park Authority and in general in our territory. Now we have to wait for the WHC decision. Certainly the recognition could really ‘change the cards on the table’ for our areas, exponentially multiplying the thrust of eco-sustainable tourist flows and further underlining the importance of the work of the Park Authority in the management of the protected area».
